I'm so embarrassed to be a Sens fan right now. He must think we're all complete morons. There's 5 mins and 47 seconds I'll never get back. |

I despise Melnyk. My credentials in that regard are gold plated and have been for a long time.
However, i am fine with this rebuild promo. Far better to go "all in" rather than play at the margins.
So, 10 players (this year) with less than 10 NHL games played and adding another 6 rookies next year.
These numbers have been given to Melnyk (by Dorion and others). I assume that 3 and perhaps as many as 5 of those rookie players (out of the 16) are part of the return for Karlsson, Stone and Duchene.
Guy Boucher was a great junior coach. I guess he is going to have to remember how to coach kids again.

Actually this is one of his better efforts. Believe me there are far worse. |

The 10 rookie thing is pretty crazy... even if you included the likes of Chabot, White, Chlapik, Paul, and McCormick, that still implies 5 of Tkachuk, Brown, Wolanin, Batherson, Formenton, Jaros, Englund, or Gagne making the team. You also have to somehow get past the fact that they currently have 17 other one-way contracts on the books for 2018/19... so the math doesn't really add up, which is hardly surprising.
Regardless, we can only hope that the penny drops at some point before July 1st, 2019 that veteran leadership for a team full of rookies means keeping players like Duchene and Stone... not Borowiecki and Smith. |

I think this is the worst news a Sens fan could receive right now. The PR person he hired this past summer must have been the cheapest on the market or Melnyk is completely out of touch with the fan base or thinks we're all naive and dumb.

Senators franchise reminds to the perishing Rome... a shame what is happing there - just a year after their great playoff-run, the fans and people paying for games&merchandise deserve much better. As seen here over the summer, Canadian hockey fans are the most enthusiastic of all, but some of their franchises are sadly managed really bad... |

So at this point, maximizing the returns for Duchene, Stone and Karlsson is obviously quite important, and while I can see Duchene and Stone moving at the TDL, anybody giving up the farm for Karlsson probably wants as much time to negotiate a contract as possible. Is he gone before the start of pre-season? |

I think the fact he says he is staying, definitely means he's going.
Why would he say it otherwise?
Everything is perfectly fine here.
I'd also expect Karlsson, Stone and Duchene to re-sign very shortly.

Good point about some of those young players he references might actually be from the returns of trades - so maybe, just maybe, there might be a possible trade already worked out for 'a' player.
I didn't look at the video - was he smiling all through it? I won't look at it as some of you have said it's a waste of time!
Can the Rangers letter to their fans before trade deadline last season be referenced when talking about this video? |

Wow time for the league to step in and sell the team under the “what’s good for the Ottawa senators fans” banner and be done with this joker. |

It’d be incredibly naive to think that the “rebuild” (a word he used multiple times) is on the upswing.
Trust me. The poop hasn't even come out of the horse to hit the fan yet. |

In the age of Trump and Doug Ford, you can basically say absolutely anything you want regardless of whether it has a shred of truth to it or not. You don't have to answer questions and no-one will ever call you on it. Just say whatever the (frank) you want. |

Why? The organization is "like, totally solid". He said it himself.
The leadership within the organization is very strong.
The Sens are also "loaded up with draft picks for the next 4,5,6 years."

You have to hit bottom before anything really changes. I am feeling pretty good about today. I know there are still a few bad news stories to come. But, after that, the only way left is up. So, relax. Sens fans need to get ready to support a line-up that will quickly evolve into the youngest line-up in the NHL.

Melnyk is a cancer and there is no denying that.
Anyway, unfortunately he's the owner and it's his prerogative to spend how he likes and shape the team as he desires. His vision and my vision are not the same for the franchise however and it stopped me from being a season ticket holder of 10 years.
I actually would support the Senators (by buying tickets) in a full rebuild. I can get over the traded pick next draft. One pick doesn't make the whole thing fall apart. If that's the direction they choose to go then great, I'd hate seeing Stone, Karlsson and Duchene playing elsewhere but I recognize that it's best for them and best for Ottawa to move on.
Get as much as you can for them.
Stone can maybe get you your 1st rd pick back from the Avs. Do it!
Karlsson can get Heiskanen + a 2nd
Duchene can get a 1st + a good prospect as well... Then keep Ryan, and Ceci and make them suffer! |

Good man!
The bonus in this is knowing that Melnyk is not the guy with the $000 behind everything that is happening and I think Melnyk has taken on the dirty job of disposing of the dirty diapers on his way out. Melnyk may remain in a nominal role but you know the guys who are putting up the development money are going to have the last word on how the team is finally shaped.
If the Sens get Heiskanen...I would be very content. |
